SESLHD raises awareness of falls prevention during April

The number of people over the age of 65 years who fall is increasing, with fall-related injury representing the single largest cause of hospital presentations.

No other single cause of injury, including road trauma, costs the health system more than falls.

In NSW each year, falls lead to approximately 27,000 hospitalisations and more than 400 deaths.

This April is April Falls Month, recognised nationally to raise awareness about fall prevention by promoting best practice principles through education sessions for staff, patient engagement and providing community resources.

April Falls is delivered in conjunction with the NSW Fall Prevention and Healthy Ageing Network and the Clinical Excellence Commission.

The theme for this year is ‘Better Balance for Falls Prevention’, encouraging older people to get active and improve their balance. For more information visit: NSW Falls Prevention and Healthy Ageing network April Falls 2024 resources
